Reading Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan felt like stepping back into a world that’s been a part of me for over a decade. I first discovered Percy Jackson in 3rd grade, it being a haven after my parent’s divorce, and the series has been a constant source of joy and nostalgia ever since. Now, as I’m navigating college life myself, reading about Percy’s attempts to get into college while also dealing with demigod responsibilities is simply a tale of nostalgia and relatability. Percy’s journey continues to resonate with me as I face my own transitions in life, and his humor and heart make every story feel like a reunion with an old friend. Seeing the mirror in both of our journey’s warms my heart as silly as it may sound.

What I love most about Chalice of the Gods is how it connects to the larger world of Percy Jackson while also capturing the challenges of growing up and moving on to the next stage of life. The blend of mythology with the real-world struggles of finding your place in the world feels so relevant, especially as I’m experiencing many of those same challenges. Being able to read about Percy’s journey at the same time I’m going through my own college experience is kind of amazing in an incredibly nerdy way. It’s also a reminder of how important it is to hold onto the things that matter—friendship, courage, and always making room for the unexpected adventures that life throws your way. These are all ideas I rather like and share in my own life.
